Hey there! Thank you for taking the time to get to know more about us. We think we have a pretty special thing going here and we are excited you have found us!
Who We Are
Southern Edge Performing Arts has been in the owner's --Melodie's --dreams since childhood. Melodie has been a music teacher for over 19 years and has taught privately and in schools. Her main instruments are piano and voice, with a passion for musical theatre. She has directed musicals with casts of 100 students, directed school bands, taught choir, and taught general music classes for ages 2-18. Melodie is no stranger to the dance world either. Like many of you, her local dance studio was her second home as a child. She continued her love of dance by minoring in dance in college, and teaching ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary and Hawaiian to ages 2-16.
Melodie has operated a successful music studio staffed with over 15 fabulous teachers for over 10 years. In 2017, Melodie took over the former Southern Edge Dance Studio and expanded it to include music and theatre to create the newest performing arts school in Frisco! SEDS had an amazing impact on its students, and Southern Edge Performing Arts is honored to be able to carry on that legacy while adding our own touch of awesome to the mix!
We at Southern Edge Performing Arts believe that the performing arts can be enjoyed by everyone and that studying and practicing the arts should encourage, motivate and lift up the student.
All of our students receive amazing education from amazing teachers, no matter how many classes they take per week, no matter if they choose to be on the performance team or choose not to perform at all.
When you take classes at Southern Edge, you'll find a safe, encouraging, nurturing environment for learning and blossoming. In our studio, there is no part too small, no bad part or placement. We all recognize that we are on our own paths of learning, and we all learn at our own pace ... and this may or may not match the path and pace of your friend or classmates ... and that's okay! At Southern Edge, you'll find nurturing instructors and staff, with a heart for teaching. You'll find only G-rated lyrics and movements, and a genuinely family-oriented atmosphere.
